Finally… the quiz

I met the most amazing guy today. He saw an article in the paper about this UN gig (yes, I’m a media tart) and he decided to write me a letter. This young man is in year 12 , and his good mate comitted suicide earlier this year. He talked to me about how, through his experiences with this mates, he now views Pot as a ‘gateway’ drug, sucking young people in and then leading them onto harder drugs. He talked to me about the day after he found out about his mates death, he still felt he had to go to school in order to help him grieve. He recounted the outpouring of emotion as his mates sat around the local river and were suddenly joined by hundereds of other young people from neighbouring schools. He also discussed how it had changed him, and the direction of his year 12 year. So brave to talk with me.

Another fundraiser for this youth Rep project.Another fundraiser for this youth Rep project. A party was held at my house, where you had to come dressed as your favourite facial haired person in history (in respect for Kofi Annan). I went dressed as Al Borlan from Home Improvement.

And today, finally the long-awaited, much-feted, often-avoided Mirrabooka Department for Community Development fundraising quiz night was held. 350 odd people piled into the local pub to attempt to win such things as an esky with a built in radio, wine signed by WA’s Premier, and an eel skin bag (yes, the prizes were all dontated). An awesome night was had by all. When a lot of the bigger people struggled to support this project, my workmates and workplace stood up to help. I was (and am) very humbled by it all. I will never be able to thank them enough - they are the most exceptional of all people.
