Huge Youth Event

Yesterday I finally finished work. I work as a Child Protection Officer for the WA State Government. I absolutely adore my job- but at this stage of this UN youth rep game, it’s become a bit much to do it all. I return to work in mid-November after I return from New York. I think my housemates now expect me to do more washing-ups and help out around the house more. Silly lads.

Last night I was invited to check out a big Battle of the Bands in the northern suburbs of Perth. It was great. There were about 700 young people going crazy to local youth bands. The whole event (drug/alcohol free) was organised by a bunch of young people, the oldest one being 22. I got up on stage to survey the scenes from there, and I must admit to feeling a little scared by the sight of so many people aimlessly screaming (I’m not quite sure what they were screaming at….). It was quite incredible to witness this massive event that was completely organised and run by young people, that was giving so many other young people (whether they are the people attending, the bands, the judges, or the organisers) such a kick. There was even a very memorable version of The Living End’s Prisoner of Society. It was also so incredible to think that the people who funded the show, had that amount of faith in these guys to pull it off. And did they pull it off!
